Michael Abbey

Michael Abbey is a lawyer and economic policy expert with a wealth of experience in international trade and investment law. With over 15 years in development work, economic policy, energy policy, human security, and strategic leadership, he has built a career at the intersection of law, governance, and economic transformation.
Before assuming the role of Chief Executive Officer at the Venture Capital Trust Fund (VCTF), Mr. Abbey served as a Programmes Coordinator at Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES Ghana), where he successfully managed international funding for diverse programs. His efforts played a pivotal role in shaping economic policy frameworks, advancing youth development initiatives, and championing gender justice advocacy.
Academically, Mr. Abbey holds a Master of Laws (LLM) in International Trade Law from the University of Turin, Italy. He also earned two Master of Arts (MA) degrees in Migration Studies and Public Affairs from the University of Ghana, Legon. Additionally, he holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from GIMPA, a Bachelor of Arts (BA) from the University of Ghana, Legon, and a Qualifying Certificate in Law from the Ghana School of Law, Makola.
With his legal expertise, strategic leadership, and understanding of economic policy, Mr. Abbey is dedicated to expanding investment opportunities, driving SME growth, and strengthening Ghana’s venture capital ecosystem. His vision for VCTF is to create a dynamic and sustainable financing environment that fosters entrepreneurship, innovation, and long-term economic development.
