John Bentum is a fellow member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana. He holds MBA in Finance from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA). He started his career as an audit trainee at KPMG Ghana in 2007 and exited as a supervisor in 2013 with multi-sectoral experiences in industries in the Banking, Shipping, Manufacturing, Brewery etc. He practiced investment banking for 4 years undertaking due diligence on several banks within Ghana, South Africa, Mozambique and Tanzania as well as playing key roles in various fund-raising campaigns for clients. He joined the Securities and Exchange Commission in 2017 with responsibilities for: reviewing offer documents in respect of (securities issuances, introductory listings, takeovers and mergers); reviewing audited annual reports and quarterly reports of Issuers; conducting investigations into regulatory breaches, accounting malpractices; among others. John also serves on several Committees within the SEC including the Guidelines Drafting and Review Committee; Team lead, sustainable finance, Technical member of Risk-Based-Supervision Transitional Team, Technical member of Fund Management revocation and bailout implementation. In summary John is highly versatile with practical working experiences spanning over 17 years in External Audits, Financial Reporting, Investment Banking, Asset Management and Capital Market Regulation.
